Frog Pond - Red Feather Lakes

This will be a rather short journal entry; one without any pictures.  When I was hiking to Mt. Margaret in November 2013, there were some additional trails that I wanted to explore.  So, the day after Christmas 2013 I drove up to Dowdy Lake at Red Feather Lakes again and explored several trails in the area.  I hit the trail to Frog Pond and Mt Margaret, pretty late, about 1000a and headed clockwise around the lake, then NNE.  The trail was lightly covered with snow, but not deep enough for snowshoes.  About a mile and a half into the hike I encountered Frog Pond.  There were several backcountry campsites, as well as fence to allow stock to water, near the pond.  The terrain was rolling with good forest cover, probably lodgepole pine.  About a half mile from Frog Pond I encountered the Mt Margaret trail intersection; since I had been to Mt. Margaret, I did not turn North, but continued on ESE to East.  I began a fairly steep downhill, following an old forest road marked on the map.  At noon I ate my lunch and turned around.

All in all it was a fairly short, but enjoyable trip.  I met no one on the trail after leaving Dowdy Lake. Dowdy Lake is very popular in the summer and a good place to take the Grandkids camping.
