Castle Rock - Hidden Mesa

It was time to take a hike with dear wife, daughter and grandson.  They live down in Aurora, CO so rather than have them drive up we drove down and found a nice hike near Castle Rock.

The Hidden Mesa Open Space is an area that used to be a large ranch.  The trailhead boasts quite a few old ranch buildings that are interesting to take a look at (no pictures though).  The hike itself was along scrub brush and was hot and dry.

I'm glad we had plenty of water.  Everyone did really well, although near the end of the hike we had a bit of rain, thunder, and lightning which caused an interesting race between Grandson and his Mimi as to who would get to the picnic shelter first.
